First Lady’s Gown by Grant Mower — a 12 year old!
All eyes are on Michelle Obama for the next Presidential Fundraiser in Utah on July 26.
Other than the first lady’s message, everyone will be paying attention to what she’s wearing and who designed it. With the fashion world on its toes, people’s guesses usually go along the caliber of high profile Jason Wu or well-known Isabel Toledo. Well, keep on guessing! The top contender for this event is not only an unknown, “Grant Mower…who?”, but more impressively, he’s only 12 years old!
Grant Mower, from Flower Mound Texas, has been sketching and sewing his own fashion designs for a few years now. A few years ago (and yes, he’s just 12), he designed a one strap gown that won against designs from all the competing high school and college kids in his area. His impressive work had him featured in the New York Times and The Nate Berkus Show.
The path to success has not been easy. Being such a young prodigy and interested in fashion did not make him a popular kid in school. While admittedly difficult, he meets the challenge head-on and refuses to give up on his dream.
Grant will be going to Utah to meet with the first lady and hopefully schedule a fitting with his orchid-inspired dress.
Good luck kid! With the first lady behind you, we’re pretty sure that you’ll rise to the ranks of Jason Wu in no time!
