12-year-old Commits Suicide After Constant Bullying
12-year-old Joel Morales was constantly bullied by his schoolmates and in a desparate attempt, he finally took his own life.
Despite moving to a different school, kids continued to harass Morales, chasing the boy, throwing objects at him and teasing him about his intelligence, short stature, and more recently, about his deceased father. One of the boy’s classmates later revealed that remarks about Morales’ father was the final straw for the boy.
Francisco Babilonia, Morales’ grandfather reounted, “It stopped for a while but it started again. The kids knew he moved and they went to the after-school club and waited for him.”
Finally, in a shocking find, Morales’ mother, Lisbeth Babilonia found his son hanging in their New York home on Tuesday.
“It was very difficult, especially with a child like Joel who wants so badly to please everyone, to see that he was really in pain, that he was struggling,” explained Ubiles, one of the therapists who worked with the boy.
“I want to remember him as a happy kid,” Morales’ sister cried.
“He was an angel. No one should have to go through this. I just want him back,” his aunt, Angelica also added.
Joel’s story is once again reflective of the growing problem of bullying, the tipping point of which was the suicide of teen Jamey Rodemeyer who died last September.
