14-Year-Old Charged with Killing Newborn Son and Hiding Body in Shoebox
A Florida teen has been arrested after admitting to strangling her newborn baby and hiding the body in a shoebox.
14-year-old Cassidy Goodson was hiding her pregnancy from her family by wearing baggy clothes. When the high school freshman realized she was about to give birth, she went into the bathroom and muffled her screams, as she delivered her own baby. The girl used a pair of scissors to push the baby into the toilet.
“The girl lifted the moving infant from the toilet, felt for a pulse, found one, then placed her hands on the infant’s neck and squeezed until he wasn’t moving or breathing any longer,” Polk County Sheriff’s Office recounted in a statement.
After cleaning up, the teen put the baby’s body in a shoebox and hid it in her room. She later went to seek medical attention for herself, claiming that she just had a miscarriage.
Three days later, the girl’s mother Teresa Goodson went into the room and noticed the odor coming from the shoebox. She called police after discovering the baby’s body.
Goodson’s aunts have suspected that the teen was pregnant, but the mom was in denial, claiming that her daughter took two pregnancy tests which turned out negative.
An autopsy revealed that the baby died as a result of asphyxia from strangulation and blunt force trauma. The teen is now facing possible murder charges.
