3-year-old Hijack Victim: “Help Me, I’m Cold”
A 3-year-old boy was seated in the backseat of his dad’s car when it was suddenly hijacked from a convenience store. Luckily, the smart boy sought help and is now safely at home.
Anthony Pettiford, the boy’s father was chatting with his friends next to the car when the suspect jumped in the open vehicle and took off. One of the friends and her boyfriend tried running after the car, but were not successful.
Becoming aware of his unlikely passenger, the thief dropped the boy off in the middle of a street. With a small bout of compassion, the suspect gave the tot a small plastic bag with soy milk, a sippy cup, two diapers, wipes, and pajamas.
Unaware of his surroundings, the toddler decided to climb up 14 steps to Traci Gilbert’s second-story apartment.
“Help me. I’m cold,” the boy told Gilbert, wearing a thin jacket and diapers in the cold weather.
Gilbert asked his son to drive the boy back home. During the search, he found a police officer who was able to reunite the toddler with his dad Anthony.
“He never shed a single tear the whole time,” Gilbert told the Gazette.
As for Anthony, he is just glad to have his son back. “I’m glad my son went to a good person,” he said with relief.
