Five toddlers, between 2-3 years old, wandered away from a Kansas City Little Learners daycare.

Geno Wallace, a maintenance worker in a nearby apartment complex called the police after he found the little tots playing in the bushes between the buildings.

The kids had apparently wandered through an open side gate into the adjacent apartment building. The three employees were supervising eight kids when the five escaped. They claimed that the kids were only gone for a minute, although Wallace says that it was 20 minutes later, before they even started looking for the kids.

“We all make mistakes, but five children? It was scary, very scary,” Wallace said.

Two of the three employees were fired, while one whose child was among the ones who disappeared, quit.

The case is under further investigation.
