Olivia Steger, 8 wrote a letter to the editors of Dwell magazine in response to their August article about “Architect Barbie.”

Dwell writer Alexandra Lange writes about how toy manufacturers are increasing their marketing efforts towards young girls. While the intention is noble, toy sets are getting customized towards stereotypes that she believes will make girls focus on “playing house, not building one.” On the other hand, Lange then believes that “Architect Barbie” may be a step in the right direction.

While Lange may have hit a few salient points in her article, Olivia has a few more points to add. “If you’re going to send a girl an Architect Barbie, then you should send something about architecture with it so that she knows what the doll means,” she stated.
