8-year-old Kansas Superfan Refuses to Take Off his Lucky Shirt
Eight-year-old Palmer Kiefer is a die-hard Kansas Jayhawks fan and he has refused to take off his lucky shirt since March 16, when Kansas defeated Detroit in the second round of March Madness.
With his favorite team pushing all the way to the Final Four this Saturday, Kiefer refuses to mess around with his lucky shirt. The second-grader is on Week-2 of wearing his number 15 jersey (the number of guard Elijah Johnson) and he is not removing it until Monday night when the Jayhawks win (or lose) it all in New Orleans.
“I apologize in advance for Palmer wearing his KU jersey every day until they play again,” his mom wrote on Hyde Elementary School’s Facebook page. “I have been instructed not to wash it or it will mess with KU’s winning streak.
While Kiefer takes the jersey off for baths, his mom has been instructed not to wash or even touch the shirt, lest she ruin the winning magic.
“Yes! It is getting a bit dirty since he has worn it daily since the 16th. But I have been informed ‘rules are rules’ and this is a BIG RULE and I can NOT be responsible for single-handedly ruining KU’s winning streak by washing THE jersey,” his mom adds.
So how do people feel about this dirty, but seemingly effective jersey? “Don’t you DARE wash that jersey!” someone posted on Facebook in response to the mom.
