8-Year-Old Upset After Receiving ‘Catastrophe Award’
8-year-old Cassandra Garcia was angry after her teacher gave her a “Catastrophe Award” for the “most excuses for not having homework.”
Garcia’s mother, Christina Valdez was upset after she heard the news from her daughter. “She said the teachers announced the award in front of the whole class and all the children were laughing at her,” Valdez explained, also adding that her daughter had a folder full of completed assignments.
When Valdez accosted the principal regarding this incident, the principal brushed the incident as a joke.
“That isn’t an award. It doesn’t fit the criteria,” psychologist Sheri Bauman berates the incident. “They feel less than, they feel fearful of authority of what might happen if they make a mistake.”
