Boy with Severe Allergies Attends School Through Robot

October 11, 2012 - By Anthony Konrad

7-year-oldĀ Devon Carrow has been dubbed a “walking time bomb”, suffering from severe allergies that prevent him from joining the outside world, at least not technically.

Despite his disability, Carrow still attends school in West Seneca, New York. But unlike other kids, Carrow is represented by a robot.

“The only thing that’s different is Devon is not in the classroom,” his mom explained. “He’s required to do everything every other kid does in the class.”

The robot, produced by VGo allows Devon to control what he sees in the classroom, lets him participate through an LED light on the machine, and gives him the ability to maneuver around the room.

Devon’s diet consists mainly of corn, potatoes, and apples. His interaction with people is extremely limited, as his allergic reactions can be fatal.
