Bus Driver Saves Girl in Three-Story Plunge
Stephen St. Bernard, a NYC bus driver caught a girl as she tumbled three stories from her Brooklyn apartment.
St. Bernard was walking back home from work when he saw the commotion outside a housing complex. A 7-year-old girl who crawled out of her family’s apartment through the air conditioning unit was moving fearlessly above it.
“‘Please let me catch her, please let me catch her.’ That’s all I could say,” St. Bernard recalled.
He then yelled for the girl to go back inside, when she suddenly fell. Lucky for us, St. Bernard was indeed there to catch her.
“I picked her up and carried her. … She kept looking around. She never closed her eyes. She never lost consciousness,” he said.
The girl suffered minor injuries while St. Bernard tore a tendon on his shoulder from catching her.
Neighbors said that the girl is a special needs child. No charges were filed against her parents.
