Early Mother’s Day Present for Mom who Lost Both Legs to Save Kids

April 26, 2012 - By Anna Karina

Stephanie Decker saved both her kids by laying on top of them after a tornado brought their entire house down. As a result of her heroic act, the mom saved both her kids but lost her legs in the process.

Decker’s house was in the path of a tornado in Indiana that killed a total of 39 people. “I have to live for my kids,” Stephanie Decker recalled as she covered her kids with a comforter and lay on top of them. Unfortunately, the storm brought their house down, along with a steel beam that crashed across her legs. When the storm passed, the mom was unable to move. She fashioned a tourniquet to slow down the bleeding from her legs which unfortunately had to be amputated.

As people called this woman a hero, she simply responds, “I call myself a mom.”

As an early mother’s day present, this mom, who’s also a die-hard Louisville fan got to throw the first pitch on the Cardinal’s game last Tuesday night.

Check out the well-deserved tribute for the awesome mom.
