Father of 2 Rescues Abducted 6-year-old Girl
24 year old Antonio Diaz Chacon has 2 daughters of his own.
On Monday afternoon, he decided to come home early from work and heard a commotion outside a neighbor’s house. He saw a man throw a little girl in the back of a van while another neighbor cried out for help.
Antonio’s wife reported the abduction to 911, “We are outside of my mom’s house here. We heard a man going, ‘Hey, hey let her go. Let her go.’ So we turn around …The man came running to us and said, ‘They stole a little girl.’”
Antonio didn’t even think twice. He got into his car and chased the van until it crashed into a pole. The suspect fled and Antonio was able to rescue the 6-year-old girl and take her home.
“I knew I had to catch him. I had to get the girl back from him and take her home, back where she belongs,” Antonio told reporters.
The suspect Philip Garcia fled on foot, but was later captured by police.
The crashed van contained tostadas, a glove, a Leatherman tool, a black satchel, and orange strapping. “This little girl was very lucky,” police Sgt. Tricia Hoffman told reporters. “We can only guess what would have happened to this child.”
As for Antonio, he was proud to be part of the rescue. He thought of his own two girls and how he’d hope that someone would do the same for them.
As for the little girl, police said that she is bruised but recovering. Her only concern at the moment is bringing back the tostadas she left in the van.
