Father’s Public Shaming of Toddler Sparks Parental Debate

September 30, 2012 - By Anna Karina

After his 3-year-old daughter accidentally used the bathtub as her personal potty area, her dad decides to punish her by taking a “shaming” picture and then posting it online.

The photo, posted on Reddit was captioned “She’s So Proud Of Herself!” While some users found the picture hilarious, others believe that it’s inappropriate.

“You don’t make a child tough and resilient by having her parents, who are meant to be the two people in the world she can trust absolutely, set out to embarrass her in the most public of settings. That makes a child insecure, because it teaches her she can’t trust the people closest to her,” wrote one commenter.

To respond to his critics and make light of the situation, the dad wrote, “She can sue me for ‘defecation.’”

Public shaming is nothing new in modern parenting, as we remember news about the infamous gun-toting dad, some angst-inducing social media shaming, or perhaps the parents who force their kids to wear signs around their necks in public.
