Jamie Lynne Grumet, TIME’s Breastfeeding Cover Mom is Back in Spotlight
Recognize the mom or maybe the back of the child’s head?
TIME Magazine released a controversial story last May about attachment parenting, and their cover models were Jamie Lynne Grumet and her 3-year-old son who she breastfed, as he stood up a stool.
Now, Grumet is back again, breastfeeding her now 4-year-old boy at the cover of Pathways To Family Wellness magazine. The editor, Jeanne Ohm describes the new cover as “the photo that could have been on the cover of TIME.”
Lori Dorman, the photographer who shot the new cover criticized TIME for its inappropriate cover. “My goal was to correct the misperception that was created on the TIME cover,” she said. “Its message was that nursing a 3-year-old was outrageous and inappropriate, when in fact nursing a 3-year-old is a normal, healthy activity in the world today.”
Grumet herself also revealed her reaction. “The first time I saw it, I just thought, ugh,” she said, referring to her TIME feature.
“It was nice to be able to tell our story and show toddler breastfeeding in a way we knew would not be manipulated,” she also added.
Grumet has two sons, ages 4 and 5. She runs the Fayye Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the orphan crisis in the Sidama region of Ethiopia.
