Stepmom and Grandma Accused of Making Girl Run to Her Death
9-year-old Savannah Hardin died after being forced to run for three hours without rest or hydration.
As punishment for lying to her grandmother about candy bars, pregnant stepmom Joyce Garrard and grandma 46-year-old Jessica Hardin meted out the tough punishment.
While the sheriff’s office received multiple calls from neighbors who witnessed the girl’s unusual non-stop running, it was a panic-stricken call about the girl’s seizure that caused authorities to come.
Due to severe dehydration and low sodium, Savannah died days later. Both the stepmom and grandmother were taken to jail last Wednesday on murder charges. Jessica Hardin had a baby while in custody.
