Lucky, the Dog with Terminal Cancer Gets Her Own Bridal Shower

May 22, 2012 - By Anthony Konrad

Lucky Diamond, a white Maltese, was diagnosed with terminal spleen cancer and given less than a year to live. To make sure her dog enjoys her remaining months of life, owner Wendy Diamond decided to throw the lucky pup a fancy bridal shower.

Wendy Diamond, a bestselling cookbook author adopted Lucky, a white Maltese pup after her original owner wanted to abandon the pooch.  After a little bit of warming up, Wendy fell in love with Lucky and made the pooch the face of her new magazine, Animal Fair. Lucky was photographed with hundreds of celebrities, making her a Guiness record holder: the dog photographed with the most number of celebrities (over 350 so far!).

Wendy describes a day in the life of Lucky in a recent tweet, “Average day in Lucky’s life! Breakfast with Nicholas Sparks, coffee with Zac Efron and lunchtime with Blythe Danner! Yes Lucky is a Lucky One!”

Unfortunately, last February, Wendy found Lucky sprawled on the ground and rushed her to the emergency room.  There, doctors discovered that the dog suffers from a stomach tumor that had spread to her spleen.

“They gave me an hour to decide whether to do surgery, but even in that case, they didn’t give her long to live,” Wendy recounted. “I felt my whole life suddenly fall apart.”

Wendy opted for surgery for Lucky, as well as weekly chemotherapy sessions.  Lucky also receives a daily dose of a radioactive chemotherapy drug in an attempt to control her cancer.  The treatment is costing Wendy thousands of dollars.

To top it off, Wendy hired dog chef Kevyn Williams to prepare home cooked meals for Lucky.  “She eats better than most people,” Diamond admits. “I changed her entire life.”

To make sure that Lucky makes the most out of her life, Wendy decided to throw Lucky a wedding, scheduled for July 12 at the Jumeirah House Essex Hotel. The lucky groom has yet to be selected, but they are going through submissions from Lucky’s Facebook page.

As a preview to how lavish the celebration could be, the proud owner threw Lucky a bridal shower this weekend. With a rented ballroom, as well as 10 different kinds of teas for dogs, mini milk bones and doggie cupcakes, it was definitely a feast fit for the “Lucky” pooch.
