Meet Kim Jong Il’s Grandson
Donning earrings and speaking perfect English, Kim Han Sol is not the first image that comes to mind when thinking of a grandson of the infamous North Korean leader, Kim Jong Il.
In an interview with former Finnish Defense Minister Elisabeth Rehn, Kim Han Sol reveals a few interesting facts about his life.
A freshman at the United World College in Bosnia, Kim may have strayed a bit far from family tradition. Off the bat, due to disagreements between his dad and Kim Jong Il, the teen has never met his famous grandfather. In fact, politically, the teen disagrees with the former leader and supports a unified Korea, a belief that stemmed from close friendships with South Koreans.
“We share our stories from back home and realize how similar we are, same language, same culture, and it’s just political issues that divide the nation in half,” he explained. “My friends say, ‘It would be really great to take a bus to South Korea or North Korea and meet at some point.’ That’s one of the dreams.”
Kim’s ultimate dream is to return to North Korea and institute major reforms. “I’ve always dream that one day I would go back and make things better and make it easier for the people there,” he said.
