Meet the 8-Year-Old who is now a Microsoft-Certified Technology Specialist

July 20, 2012 - By Anthony Konrad

The consulting world is applauding.

An 8-year-old Pakistani boy Shafay Thobani just passed his exams to become one of the youngest “Microsoft-certified Technology Specialist.”

The precocious boy started working with computers at the age of 4, and by 7, he started studying and training to become a Microsoft expert. For 13 months, Shafay adhered to a strict schedule, attending regular school from 7:30a-1:30p, and then computer classes from 2:30p-8:30p

Shafay takes his computer training at his father’s office. And it doesn’t hurt that his dad is Shah Thobani, CEO of Thobson Technologies in Karachi Pakistan. With access to trainers and his own training facility, Shafay passed the test with flying colors, an amazing score of 91 percent.

“I feel like the luckiest parent because at the end of each day I only ever receive very positive feedback from Shafay’s teachers,” his dad Shah Thoban said. “Every year I give Shafay a new challenge to try and encourage him.”

Shafay’s goals in life are to help the poor and meet Bill Gates. In the meantime, he is also open to being hired as a young consultant.  As Microsoft doesn’t track age during these certification tests, there’s no way to prove that Shafay is indeed the youngest, but seeing the pint-sized consultant, we will take his word for it.
