Mom Fights Back after Breastfeeding Video Appears on Porn Sites
New Jersey mom Maryann Sahoury is now suing a production company, after her instructional breastfeeding video was turned into pornography.
Three years after her daughter was born, on January 2010, Sahoury agreed to participate in an instructional video about breastfeeding.
“Breastfeeding for me was the most rewarding thing I had ever done in my life,” she explained. “I wanted to share that with people. I wanted to really give back.”
Unfortunately, a few months later, Sahoury decided to google herself and saw related links to adult sites and videos. To make matters worse, she searched for her baby daughter’s name and found links to similar sites.
“I was sick to my stomach,” the mom recounted. “I didn’t know what I was going to do. I just felt so paralyzed.”
Meredith Video Studios produced the original video; and as part of the agreement, the producer told Sahoury that her name would not be published and the video would only be used for educational purposes. Unfortunately, as soon as the video hit Youtube, the public had other ideas. The original educational video was transformed and posted to different pornography sites on the web.
With controversial breastfeeding photos on Facebook, magazine covers, and advertisements, we need to stop and wonder how breastfeeding became such an oversexualized topic.
