Mom Jailed for Self-Aborting Full-Term Baby
A British mother has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for self-aborting her full-term baby.
A week before her due date, Sarah Catt, a mother of two administered poison to induce a miscarriage to a baby that was conceived during her extramarital affair.
The mother initially claimed that she had a legal abortion, then later changed her story, saying that she buried her baby after a stillborn birth. Officials later discovered that the mom had purchased a labor-inducing drug from India, after searching for the terms, “where can I get an illegal abortion?” and ”inducing an abortion at 30 weeks.”
Catt revealed to a psychologist that she had taken the drug when she was home alone and delivered the boy herself. She then claimed that she buried the baby in an undisclosed location. Her husband was unaware of the pregnancy or his wife’s plans to have an abortion.
“The critical element of your offending is the deliberate choice made by you, in full knowledge of the due date of your child, to terminate the pregnancy at somewhere close to term, if not actually at term, with the full knowledge that termination after week 24 was unlawful and in full knowledge your child’s birth was imminent,” the judge outlined. ”What you have done is rob an apparently healthy child, vulnerable and defenceless, of the life which he was about to commence. The child in the womb was so near to birth, in my judgment all right-thinking people would think this offence more serious than unintentional manslaughter.”
“Catt has proved to be cold and calculating and has shown no remorse or given an explanation for what she did,” Chief Inspector Kerrin Smith said.
In 1999, Catt got pregnant before giving her child up for adoption. She later got married in 2009 and had two children with her husband Stephen Catt.
