Mom with Flesh Eating Bacteria Reunites with Twin Babies
A mom diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis was finally stable enough to be reunited with her twin 1-month-old babies, Abigail and Ian.
A few days after giving birth, 36-year-old paramedic Lana Kuykendall went to the hospital after noticing a growing bruise on her leg. She was soon diagnosed with a flesh-eating bacteria, necrotizing fasciitis.
Kuykendall has now been diagnosed in a stable condition and has been reunited with her babies
“Lana couldn’t stop looking at the clock to see if it was time yet,” Brian Swaffer, Kuykendall’s brother explained. “Lana grinned from ear to ear when she was holding them.”
As for Lana, doctors are optimistic about her recovery. “Recovery will be a slow process, but she’s doing well at this time,” her doctor Bill Kelly explained. “We believe she has turned the corner.”
There are about 500 to 1,000 reported cases of necrotizing fasciitis annually in the United States.
