New York City Schools Offering Free Morning-After Pill
New York High School girls as young as 14 are now able to get the morning-after pill for free and without parental consent.
The Department of Education is now making the Plan B emergency contraception available to 13 New York public high schools in their latest CATCH pilot program.
Parents will be able to opt their children out of the program, but if they don’t, they will not receive any notification if their kids pick up or use the drug.
New York schools already distribute condoms for free, and latest effort is an attempt to stunt the city’s growing teen pregnancy rates. The city explained that about 7,000 girls get pregnant before they turn 17, and half of that number opt for an abortion.
