Olympian Mother Sends Hug Over Twitter
After Jordyn Wieber didn’t make it to the finals during Sunday’s qualifiers, her mom Rita Wieber decided to give her daughter a virtual hug.
Wieber who is currently the defending world gymnastics champion took third place to her US teammates. Unfortunately, only the top two gymnasts per country compete in the all-around.
With tight security, Rita was unable to reach her disappointed and tearful daughter after the announcement. Instead, the mom decided to show her support through Twitter instead.
She wrote: “My one wish right now would be to give my amazing daughter #jordyn_wieber a huge hug.So proud of her. She is all class!!!#Olympics.”
“It’s a little bit of a disappointment,”Jordyn later said in a statement. “It’s always been a dream of mine to compete for the all-around at the Olympics, shoot for that gold medal. But I’m really proud of Aly and Gabby both. And I’m glad that I’ll be able to help the team out in the team finals.”
Recovering her momentum last night, she also took to Twitter to support her team in the finals. “Thank you all for your love and support. I am so proud of our team today and I can’t wait for team finals!!”
