Passionate Spurs Fan Suspended for Haircut; Matt Bonner Responds
Die-hard Spurs fan Patrick Gonzalez was almost suspended last week following his Matt Bonner inspired haircut.
With the blessing of his mom, Gonzalez got an elaborate likeness of San Antonio Spurs Matt Bonner shaved into his head. School officials were appalled by the ‘offensive’ design and deemed it is a huge distraction and should be removed immediately.
“There was no permission that was given if the parent thought that then it was a miscommunication,” explained Aubrey Chancellor of the school district. ”Whether it’s the Spurs or whether it’s the Cowboys anything people obviously support, it doesn’t matter.”
Gonzalez’s haircut and dilemma went viral online, even reaching the ears of Matt Bonner himself.
“Couldn’t you just move him to the back of the class?” Bonner explained in response to the controversy .”Then nobody would see it; it wouldn’t be a distraction. Otherwise, the nicest thing a fan has ever done for me is ruined. I’m not going to condemn the school. If anyone is in support of education and academics, it’s myself, my Mom being a teacher, and (because of) my own academic success. Like I said, they could have just moved him to the back of the class.”
Unfortunately, with the school’s immovable threat of suspension, Gonzalez was forced to shave the design off.
Fortunately, all is not lost. To show his appreciation for one of his most loyal fans, Bonner gave Gonzalez tickets to Thursday night’s Spurs game (vs. LA Clippers), as well as several signed Spurs memorabilia.
