GOP candidate Rick Santorum’s 3-year-old daughter Bella was hospitalized last Friday, but will be released soon.

Suffering from a rare genetic condition called Trisomy 18, Bella was hospitalized last week for an undisclosed reason. To take care of his daughter, Santorum temporarily left the campaign trail; his schedule on Tuesday would be dependent on his daughter’s recovery.

“The family hopes to take her home from the hospital very soon,” a campaign spokesperson said.

In consideration to the Santorum family during this tough time, the Romney camp removed an anti-Santorum spot and will instead replace it with a more positive pro-Romney ad.

This has not been the first time Santorum left the campaign trail for his daughter, as Bella was also hospitalized last January for pneumonia. Her story is well-known in the campaign, rationalizing Santorum’s  strong position against abortion.
