Sarah Jessica Parker: In Her Own Circus
Producer, actor, fashion icon, and full-time mom, Sarah Jessica Parker seems to have her busy life under control. With three kids in tow, James Wilkie, 8 1/2, and 2 year old fraternal twin daughters, Tabitha and Marion, her household is nothing short of a whirlwind. In an interview with Vogue magazine, she sums up her life in one phrase, “Like a ship avoiding icebergs”
She plans her day like a business or what she calls “strategic planning.” Parker starts describing her day in a way that makes us feel overwhelmed, “The internal lists, the children’s doctor’s appointments, the letters to write, the school projects. . . .What you have to do and how to get the kids from A to B, and whatever is required of you at your work. And maybe you can toss in friendships that need to be attended to. . . . The thing that’s most surprising to me is how much we do in a day.”
And even after all that, the couple is very determined to be very involved in their kids’s lives, “We don’t have any live-in help. We’re pretty hands-on parents. That’s something that’s important to both of us, and we don’t shirk it, because what’s the point in having a family if you’re not going to really participate in it, you know?”
Battling infertility, Parker had her twin daughters via a surrogate. While both girls are different from each other, they fit in fabulously in the Parker-Broderick household. “Loretta is bigger and fairer than Tabitha, who is tiny and olive-skinned, with enormous brown eyes,” she says adoringly. “I think it’s funny how much she [Tabitha] looks like my husband…and then I look at Loretta and she has my husband’s mouth and sort of sad eyes,” she quips, “You know the kind that go down? The Broderick eyes.”
So how does busy-mom Parker relate to her equally fabulous Bradshaw? “Bradshaw’s life is nothing—nothing—like mine. I loved playing her, and it changed my life in lots of wonderful ways, but I’m not a crazy shoe lady, I don’t think about fashion all day long, although I have a great respect for the industry.”
Looking at what she wore to the interview — a yellow silk Gerard Darel sundress, a loose-weave striped sweater, flat pumps, a Chloé handbag, and large Chanel sunglasses — we think that there is just a little bit of Bradshaw in her.
