Shelter Dog Returns Favor by Saving Family’s Newborn Baby
A Connecticut family is now thankful for the day they decided to adopt a dog from the shelter six years ago. The dog named Duke has now been dubbed a hero, after saving the life of their baby girl.
On the evening of October 7, just when Jenna Brousseau and her husband were about to go to bed, Duke suddenly went into their room and insistently jumped on the bed. The normally obedient dog was frazzled and shaking uncontrollably.
“He’s insanely obedient so this was extremely bizarre,” Jenna Brousseau recalled the odd behavior.
Curious about the dog’s agitated state, the parents decided to check on their baby girl, 9-week-old Harper. To their surprise, they found her unconscious and not breathing.
“My husband called 911 and the ambulance came here and it was because of our Dukie dog, who alerted us,” Brousseau added. “If Duke hadn’t, you know, been so scared, then we would have just gone to sleep.”
The doctors are uncertain of what caused Harper’s condition, but she is now back at home.
As for Duke, rest assured that he is closer to the family than he has ever been.
“He’s the perfect dog,” Brousseau said. “He was meant to be ours, and meant to be hers.”
