Tavi Gevinson, 11-year-old Blogger Turned Fashion Icon
At 15 years of age, Tavi Gevinson already has a fashion career that most magazine editors would salivate over. (Move over, Miranda Priestly!)
The precocious girl started a blog, Style Rookie in her pre-teen years. Her parents didn’t even know that their little 11-year-old was building a blogging empire, until the New York Times knocked on their door.
Within 3 years, Tavi has had over 50,000 readers, been featured in magazines (Heard of Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, or The New Yorker?), inspired Rodarte’s line for Target, and has been front and center in high profile fashion shows (Marc Jacobs, anyone?)
The humble fashionista told Daily Mail that she is a “dork that sits inside all day wearing awkward jackets and pretty hats.”
I think we can all agree that Tavi is far from a dork and very far from awkward. In fact, this little entrepreneur is now planning her second venture, Rookie Mag which gives her take on the American teenage girl. Despite her very un-typical 15-year-old existence, she tells NY Times, “I’m our audience.”
She defines her work, which launches on September 5th, “People think it’s just going to be another site or magazine that talks about how great celebrities are or how awful celebrities are or dieting. And I’m like, ‘Just you wait and see. ’ ”
Well, Tavi, we will be waiting and seeing. For now though, we are already in awe. Not bad for a 15-year-old, not bad at all.
