Teacher Kicks Student Out of Class for Romney Shirt: Similar to “Wearing a KKK Shirt”
When 16-year-old Samantha Pawlucy wore a Romney shirt to Charles Carroll High last Friday, she didn’t know that her teacher would kick her out of class and compare her shirt to “wearing a KKK shirt.”
The high school sophomore decided to show her support to the Republican President last Friday. Unfortunately, while the other faculty members rightfully ignored her shirt choice, it caught the attention of her geometry class teacher.
“The teacher told me to get out of the classroom, I said no,” Samantha recalled. “She told me to take off my shirt and said that she has another one if I need one. And then the teacher asked me… ‘Are your parents Republican?’ I said, ‘I don’t know.’ She said that’s like her wearing a KKK shirt.”
After the embarrassing confrontation made their daughter distraught, the parents requested a meeting with the school. The teacher then apologized to the family and said that she only meant her statements as a joke.
“It was funny to her, but I was really embarrassed,” Samantha said.
“I can just picture her sitting there, feeling ashamed for just wearing a T-shirt,” her mother, Christine Pawlucy said angrily. “That someone could spin that and throw it back on a 16-year-old child and make her feel so terrible.”
“A teacher made some comments to a student wearing a Romney T-shirt in their classroom,” Philadelphia School District spokesman Fernando Gallard released a statement. “The comments were of a political nature, and also of a personal nature. We are looking into the comments, and the conduct of the teacher.”
The teacher has been transferred to another class. The investigation is still ongoing. Needless to say, the teacher was perhaps a die-hard Sesame Street fan.
