James Hooker and Jordan Powers, a non-celebrity couple made headlines after they went public with their relationship. The reason? 41-year-old James Hooker, a high school teacher left his family for his student, 18-year-old Jordan.

The couple met when Jordan was a high school freshman and James was her business teacher. They claimed that the relationship evolved over time and became physical when the teen turned 18. Tammie Powers, Jordan’s mom, is not convinced with the relationship’s timeline and showed records of long, late-night phone calls and more than 8,000 text messages between the couple.

“He shouldn’t be with kids. I’d like to see him arrested. I’d like to get information from when she was a minor and have him arrested,” the angry mom accused.

Jordan who has halted her high school classes, claims that their relationship goes deeper, “Yes, I do love him. He’s my best friend. I mean, he’s more than just a lover.”

High school teacher James has since filed for a divorce and resignation. “I know my family is probably disappointed in me,” James explained. “They’re probably confused in what we’re doing. I’m not sure how to explain it to them. … I am just following my heart and this is the direction I’m going in.”

James also leaves his three kids, including a 17-year-old daughter who attends the same high school as his now-girlfriend.
