Teen Calls for Boycott of Girl Scout Cookies Due to Transgender Boys
In a five-minute tirade against transgenders in the girl scouts, Taylor, a 14 year old teen from Ventura, California urges people to stop buying girl scout cookies that fund these “small handful of people.”
Clearly reading off a script, Taylor outlines a few points in her defense. She believes that transgenders (dubbed as the “small handful of people”) take away the meaning behind being a girl scout, “Girl Scouts describes itself as an all-girl experience.” She adds, “With that label, families trust that the girls will be in an environment that is not only nurturing and sensitive to girls’ needs, but also safe for girls.”
To counter her discriminatory points, the Girl Scouts of Colorado issued this statement through the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), “If a child identifies as a girl and the child’s family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout.”
Bottomline, I think if the Girl Scout organization continues to support girls (transgender boys are girls in my book), then I’ll be doubling my order for girl scout cookies this year.
