Teen’s Brutal Soccer Attack Earns Assault Charge
During the middle of a close South Carolina girl’s soccer match, a player reacted violently after a small foul from the opposing team.
High senior Annette McCullough brutally attacked an unnamed Chester (S.C.) High opponent after a small trip sent the former to the ground. In a reaction that’s hardly ever seen in the professional level, McCullough got up and started pummeling violently at the other player.
The crowd and officials were heard in the video frantically trying to stop the attack. And McCullough was pulled away and sent off with a red card.
“It’s unfortunate, it really is,” the referee recounts. “Contact is a part of soccer, but when you retaliate like that, obviously, there is no place in the game for that.”
Deputies were called on the scene and the teen was charged with assault. The victim’s mother will push for full prosecution for McCullough, as well as a ban from any future soccer games.
I know it will not be tolerated on this team and here in Lewisville,” Assistant girls soccer coach Paul Atkerson told WBTV. “This is something that should not have happened, it should not have happened at all.”
