The Truth about “Forest Boy”, The Boy Who Claimed to Live in the Wild for 5 Years
The infamous “Forest Boy” who allegedly has been living in the German forest with his father for five years has now been identified. His unbelievable story in the forest has been a lie.
The Forest Boy, “Ray” is actually 20-year-old Robin van Helsum. He went missing 9 months ago and his stepmother has just recently identified him.
“We are 100 percent certain that he is this 20-year-old boy, because his stepmother positively identified him,” a police spokeswoman explained. “We have made contact with his family and friends. A photo where you could see him with a chain round his neck showing his name provided the proof. We are very glad that he has been found.”
Van Helsum was found in Berlin nine months ago. The boy, armed with only a tent and a backpack told police that he had been wandering around for five days before he reached Berlin. He explained that both his parents were dead. His mom Doreen allegedly died in a car accident which prompted him and his father to live in the forest for five years. He then explained that his father died five days ago which then forced the teen to find his way back to Berlin.
Authorities were puzzled by the case, checking his DNA against global fingerprint database, but did not find a match.
“There were things that did not fit with his story — he was relatively clean and the tent he had with him did not look like it had been used for five years,” a member of the Berlin police department said.
After his photo was finally released last week, van Helsum’s stepmom contacted police to claim the boy.
“This is no joke anymore,” a police spokesperson added. “He made right fools of us. The costs could come down to him.”
Van Helsum is currently living at social care housing and appears to be mentally sound. Police will be questioning the boy’s motives, and there is a possibility that the boy may be charged for lying to authorities.
