Toddler Declared Dead Wakes Up At Funeral

June 7, 2012 - By Susan Lim

A 2-year-old Brazilian boy suffered cardiac arrest and was declared dead after he was unconscious and unresponsive. During the funeral arrangements the next day, the family got the surprise of their life when the little boy came back to life.

Kelvin Santos was rushed to the Aberlardo Santos Hospital in Belem, Brazil after suffering respiratory failure and cardiac arrest last Friday. After being unresponsive for hours, the boy was officially declared dead due to complications from bronchial pneumonia. The toddler’s body was then sealed into an airtight body bag before being transported to the family the next day.

As they started to make the necessary funeral arrangements, the boy’s aunt noticed some subtle movements which she ignored until the boy suddenly opened his eyes, only to return to unconsciousness.

As if that wasn’t enough of a shock, during the wake a few hours later, Santos sat up and said, “Father, give me water.” After people started screaming, the boy again became lifeless.

The family returned Santos to the hospital where he was finally declared dead. The family waited again for a miracle, but the boy never returned to consciousness again.

“Dead people don’t just wake up and talk,” said Antonio Santos, the boy’s father. “I’m determined to find out the truth.”

Santos has since been buried. The family filed a malpractice suit against the hospital.

While shocking, this is not the first time this has happened. A similar case happened in Argentina last April where a baby was found alive in the morgue 12 hours after she had been declared dead. Also, last May, a man also “resurrected” from the dead in Egypt after hospital officials had pronounced him dead.
