Toddler Found Dead in Grandmother’s Closet
A 1-year-old girl was reported missing and later found dead in her grandmother’s closet.
24-year-old mom Erica James had a doctor’s appointment last Friday. She dropped off her one-year-old daughter Zyia Turner at her grandmother’s place on Thursday night. On Friday, the grandmother left a quick errand and left the child under the care of an uncle. At around 4pm, James received a call that her child was missing.
Zyia’s uncle, who was babysitting Zyia, along with other kids, explained that he had left the kids alone to play while he went into his bedroom. When he came back, Zyia was gone.
After searching the neighborhood, the police brought in a cadaver dog which then sniffed out the girl’s body buried underneath items in the closet of the grandmother’s home.
“I knew… my baby had to be in that house somewhere, but I didn’t know where,” James said. “I (have) two closets at home and she never went in.”
Zyia was found with white foam coming out from her mouth and nose. The cause of death is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.
