Twin Saved Her Sister Before They Were Born!
It was perhaps an expectant mother’s worst nightmare. Andrea Goodrich went in for a routine checkup when the doctors call out a “strange halo” around Kiki’s heart. To make matters worse, there was a rupture in Kiki’s placenta, as well as a tear in the amniotic sac, which meant that at 20 weeks, the babies will most likely not survive.
With a heavy heart, Andrea was admitted to the hospital as she dreadfully awaited the inevitable miscarriage.
“Paul and I prepared ourselves for the worst,” Andrea tells Daily Mail.
That is, until Kiki’s twin came to the rescue! Nico, the healthy twin positioned herself underneath Kiki, effectively blocking the leak and saving her sister’s life. The doctors and parents were amazed. “Amazingly, Nico stayed in that position. And it was a huge relief when we got to the 24-week milestone,” Andrea recounts.
At 30 weeks, Andrea went into labor and had her twin daughters, both born a little over 3 pounds, but surprisingly very healthy. In fact, Kiki’s heart had time to heal, thanks to the few additional weeks that Nico gave them.
Now, at seven months, the twins have become inseparable! The proud mom explains, “When they get older, we will tell both of them the reason they have such a special bond isn’t only because they shared a womb but because before they were even born, Nico saved Kiki’s life.”
