Under 10 Years Old Prodigies: Mozart, Pool Master in Diapers, and Picasso
ABC recently featured three incredible child prodigies:
Emily Bear, the 9 year old Mozart - When her grandmother heard a beautiful melody from the next room, she was shocked to find 18 month old Emily playing a piece on the piano. At 18 months old, Emily could play piano pieces without any instruction or lessons. As Amanda Bear (Emily’s mother) recounts, “We were getting our kitchen painted and the painters were like who is playing piano? And then she’d waddle in in her diaper. So it was surreal.”
Now, at age 9, Emily has performed all over the world, including the White House, TV stations, and Carnegie Mellon. Not only is she gifted at playing the piano, she’s also quite a talented composer. Asked how many pieces she’s written, the unassuming 9 year old responded with, “Oh, I guess 600.”
Keith O’Dell, the 3 year old Master pool player – At the same magical age of 18 months, Keith was already able to pick the cue and pocket balls. While in diapers, this little one has managed to awe and beat people who are over 10 times his age. As his father proudly describes his son’s talent, “There’s stuff he’s doing that people who are 30 years old can’t do. He’s incredible, he never ceases to amaze me. I mean there’s stuff that he’s doing now, his jump shots and his creativity, you know he comes up with stuff on his own that just blows us away.” With his array of sponsorships, along with dozens of television appearances, his claim to fame came before he even started preschool.
Kieron Williamson, 8 year old Picasso – When his parents gave Kieron a drawing pad a few years ago, they were amazed that he came back with more than just simple scribbles. His elaborate landscape drawings were atypical of a young and untrained child… and the rest of the public agrees. Since then, Kieron has sold his work through multiple gallery showings. In fact, according to ABC, 33 of Kieron’s works from his last collection sold in 27 minutes and raked in more than $230,000. Kieron’s mom quipped about his talent, “I’d really like to be able to say he gets his talent from me, but we don’t know where the talent comes from.”
While a gifted prodigy, Kieron is still a 8 year old boy with his own hopes and dreams. When asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, Kieron simply stated, “A really good artist and a professional footballer.”
