University of Maryland Honor Student Arrested for Online Threat
19-year-old Alexander Song from the University of Maryland has been arrested for posting an online threat about a pending shooting rampage.
He warned people to avoid the malls and described this incident as something that will “kill enough people to make it to national news.”
A former student called campus police after he saw the threats posted on reddit.com. Additionally, two people contacted the university after chatting with Song on omegle.com.
Campus authorities identified the online poster as Alexander Song. Song is an honors student and a member of the Gemstone research program in Maryland. He was not armed at the time of arrest, but faces misdemeanor charges following a full psychiatric evaluation.
Song has now been suspended from the University.
