Woman Charged for Tattooing Her 11-Year-Old Daughter
Odessa Clay was arrested and charged after giving her 11-year-old daughter a heart tattoo on her right shoulder.
The mom who is a “beauty consultant” for Mary Kay Cosmetics also does tattooing on the side. She claimed that she was unaware of the law against giving a minor a tattoo.
“She asked me to do it,” the mom defended.
She also added that she numbed the child’s arm and didn’t color the outline to prevent much pain.
“I feel she oughta be charged with child abuse,” Pamlico County Sheriff Bill Sawyer Jr. told the HuffPost. “She scarred her child for life.”
The negligent mom has received a lesser charge, although the matter is still under discussion. “We’re in consultation with Havelock police at this time to determine if any additional charges should be filed,” District Attorney Scott Thomas said.
To add to the fray, Clay has now filed a complaint against her ex-father-in-law who told authorities about the tattoo. She claims that he tattled on her, as retaliation for another argument.
